A field guide to hot water

Hot springs are scattered, poorly documented and often described in terms that only make sense once you have already been. Hot Spots is an attempt to fix that: one place to find out where the water is, how hot it runs, and what it takes to reach it.

Why some springs are for members

A handful of springs are listed openly. Most are not. Undeveloped springs are fragile, and the ones that get posted widely tend to end up trampled, littered or closed outright. Keeping them behind a modest paid membership is a small amount of friction that keeps the collection in the hands of people who actually intend to visit, and pays for it to be reviewed and kept current.

Everything is reviewed

Anyone with an account can submit a spring. Nothing goes live automatically. Each submission is checked for accuracy and for whether it should be public or kept to members before it appears.

What we ask

Test the water before you get in. Pack out everything you bring, including what somebody else left. Keep groups small and quiet. If a spring is on private land or posted closed, respect it — and tell us so we can take it down.
